Do we “see” the people that walk in and out of our lives? How can we “see” and be “seen?” Listen to Dr. Paul Parkin, empathy researcher, share his own life-changing empathy experiences and his thoughts on empathy, boundaries, and betrayal.

When his brother unexpectedly died, it changed how Paul viewed life. It lead him to study empathy. He believes that in today’s world where we are overrun by technology that is becomes easy to lose sight of each other. It is ironic that we are sending messages, but we are not really connecting in deeper ways. We need to be in tune with each other’s needs and we can do that by understanding empathy.

In particular, Paul believes that empathy should be a key part of navigating betrayal trauma. We have emotional needs that we can’t meet ourselves; it is not a solitary activity. It should be relational. There should be this community of healing involved in the process. We need to have loving and empathic relationships to help us meet these needs.
