There’s a teen girl in my neighborhood who every once in awhile, will text and ask if she can come over and talk. These talks are rarely about the latest teen crush or music and movies but more about internal, difficult and confusing things. We normally hop in the car and get a treat while she dishes the latest, but the last time I got a text I said, “sure, come over and bring your tennis shoes.”
“Why?” she wrote back.
“We’re gonna walk around the block.”
Her response, “um, OK?”
This Love Rice episode, New Brain Cells with Dr. John Ratey, is about much more than enlarging our brains. We talk with Dr. Ratey, a top neuroscience Researcher, Speaker, Harvard Professor, Author and Clinical Psychiatrist about decades of science that teaches us how exercise turns on and balances our brains.
We talk about the time I spent months, depressed, sad, lying on the couch and eating endless amounts of Oreos and how to break these kinds of patterns. Dr. Ratey tells the inspirational story of an unlikely teen girl who becomes a Dance Dance Revolution Champion and how hair can sometimes get in the way of really moving our bodies!
I love the way Dr. Ratey laughs, his great antidotes and expert insights about how our body influences our mind. He’s an incredible person to talk with and I’m excited to share our conversation with you. Listen below, subscribe on itunes or Soundcloud.
